00:00If I asked you to name three major cinematic influences for this film, could you give them to me?
00:05Yeah, I mean, I'll go for some more deep cut ones, actually.
00:08I would say rather than the 1987 original, if I would pick a different Arnold Schwarzenegger film,
00:13I would say Total Recall, because I think, like, obviously there's three, like, great sci-fi satirical movies
00:19that Paul Verhoeven made that are just classics to me, Robocop, Total Recall, and Starship Troopers.
00:24Like, that's an unimpeachable trilogy.
00:26So if we just pick one of them, to give Arnie the credit, let's say Total Recall, more deep cut
00:32ones.
00:33A film that doesn't get enough credit is Series 7, The Contenders, the Canadian film from 2001.
00:39I saw it at the cinema at the time, and it's one of those sort of, I think, an underrated
00:42movie.
00:43And they sort of do a version of The Running Man from the book, but they only show it through
00:48episodes of the show.
00:49So you feel like you're watching, like, a marathon of episodes of a show called, you know, The Contenders.
00:54And the voiceover on that film is Will Arnett.
00:57Previously on The Contenders.
00:59In an early, early kind of, you know, like, voiceover only role.
01:03Another one that I would mention, again, I think not enough people talk about, is the 1965 Italian film, The
01:12Tenth Victim.
01:13It's almost like a pop-arty kind of John Wick or something, because it's basically like a game show where
01:18different assassins are trying to take each other out.
01:21And it's super cool, the fashions are amazing, and so I think that one is another one I'd name check.
01:27All right.
01:28All right.
