'Grannies Against The Right' hit streets in run-up to German election

Veterans of the German anti-fascist movement, the "Omas Gegen Rechts", or "Grannies Against The Right", have ramped up their demonstrations ahead of the federal election on February 23, with the far-right AfD party performing well in the polls.

00:27The grandmothers against the right are actually very important.

00:32They are older people, who probably already lived in the past, up to 45.

00:37Some of them are really very old.

00:39And they simply stand up for human rights, against racism, against discrimination, against human hostility.

00:47And I think that's very important and also worth supporting.

00:49We know where races were and feelings of superiority can lead.

01:00We owe the victims of the Holocaust our memories, our memories.

01:06We were too naive.

01:09So I have to say, my generation, we, the so-called old 68ers,

01:14who went to the streets and barricades against the old establishment,

01:20against the Nazi and fascist establishment,

01:23we thought we had eradicated it.

01:26But that's not true, it's growing again.

01:44Our bodies, broken thick legs.
