00:00The Congress has just released a blueprint of exactly how it plans to create jobs, which
00:08is one of the biggest issues that concerns young voters in India today. If it's voted
00:13to power, the Congress says amongst the first things it would do would be to fill up vacancies
00:18in government jobs, of which there are many, many thousands, and also a compulsory apprenticeship
00:24program that would apply to graduates below the age of 25 years. Now, these are all very
00:29interesting ideas and important ideas. The problem is, why isn't the Congress or in fact
00:34the entire opposition talking about issues like this much more forcefully in their rallies
00:39and in their campaigns? Because so far, the campaign has been largely negative, and it
00:45has largely centered around attacking Narendra Modi and his government. Of course, the government
00:50should be attacked. That's what the opposition is there for. And there are plenty of things
00:54to attack them on, particularly the handling of the economy, unequal growth, etc. The problem
01:01is when the attacks become personal. That is when the BJP turns it to their advantage
01:06and plays martyr. If you look at the latest personal attack against Mr. Modi, that came
01:10from Lalu Prasad Yadav at an opposition rally, where he attacked him for not having a family.
01:16Immediately, the BJP swung into action and started a Modi ka Parivar campaign. It's like
01:21the opposition has not learned its lessons from the Chaiwala Jaib in 2014 to the Chowkidhar
01:26Chol Hai in 2019, both of which miserably failed. So, instead of personally attacking
01:31Mr. Modi, they need to focus on criticism of the government, but also to give an alternate
01:37plan and a vision to voters, which is finally what the Congress has done with its jobs plan,
01:42but one which it needs to hammer home in its campaigns.
