00:00Well, the opposition meeting that took place in Patna last week was important because it

00:08brought together all these disparate voices on one platform after a very long time.

00:13The fact that Mamata Banerjee and Rahul Gandhi were sharing a stage after what's been a year

00:18of intense and bitter exchanges between the two sides shows how much effort Nitish Kumar

00:23had really put in to bringing everyone on board.

00:26And while the outcome was largely successful in the sense that they did agree to another

00:30meeting in a couple of weeks in Simla, what actually sawed the atmosphere was the spat

00:34between the Aam Aadmi Party's Arvind Kejriwal and Malik Ujjain Kharge, the Congress President,

00:39at that meeting.

00:40This was largely over the Delhi Ordinance.

00:42The AAP wants the Congress to publicly take a stand right now.

00:46The Congress has very clearly said it will take a stand when Parliament session begins

00:50later in July.

00:52Now, the Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress are finding it very, very difficult to reconcile

00:57their differences.

00:58And this is proving to be a chink in the opposition's armour.

01:02While on principle, the Congress is very conflicted, for instance, on issues like the Delhi Ordinance,

01:06where it genuinely believes that this does infringe upon the rights of an elected government,

01:11its own leaders, or a section of them at least, are dead against any kind of understanding

01:16with the AAP.

01:17That's because the AAP has grown largely at the expense of the Congress.

01:22But for any kind of meaningful opposition unity to succeed, the two parties will have

01:27to find a way to work together, which at the moment, is looking like a tough task.
