00:00Operatives of the PNP Special Operations Unit and Maritime Group laid out a sting operation

00:06for a captain in the Philippine Air Force seeking to sell a sniper rifle online.

00:11And right when he opened the trunk of his car to reveal the firearm, the PNP's sole

00:17MG agents pounced on him and is now in police custody, awaiting arraignment of violation

00:23of COMELEC's prevailing gun ban, among other charges.

00:27PTV correspondent Ryan Desigues has more details.

00:32A man suspected of illegally selling high-caliber firearms online has been arrested.

00:37The meet-up took place in a parking lot near in Edsa, Pasay City.

00:41He did not know the people he was transacting with were undercover police officers.

00:46He even opened the car's compartment to show the firearms he was selling.

00:50The suspect appeared nervous, frequently looking behind him and scanning the surroundings.

00:55Then he realized something was off.

00:58The police moved in to arrest him.

01:00He struggled and attempted to resist.

01:20According to operatives from the 3rd Special Operations Unit of the PNP Maritime Group,

01:25the suspect offered to sell a sniper rifle for 1.2 million pesos.

01:31Based on the type of firearm he had and his money reasons, authorities immediately suspected

01:36he was not a civilian.

01:38When the suspect was finally arrested, it was confirmed that he is an active member

01:43of the Philippine Air Force.

01:45With the 2025 election campaign period underway, the illegal sale of high-powered firearms

01:50poses a serious threat.

01:52The PNP warned that if these weapons fall into the wrong hands, they could be used for

01:57politically motivated crimes.

01:59This is why the PNP Maritime Group has decided to expand its operations from patrolling municipal

02:25waters to cracking down on loose firearms.

02:28In the event that these loose firearms will be negated or removed from society or circulation,

02:41then definitely, the chances of them being used for crime are lesser because we have

02:46already confiscated them.

02:47The arrested Philippine Air Force personnel will face charges for violating the comprehensive

02:52law on firearms and ammunition.

02:54He will also be charged with the violation of the UNIMO selection code for failing to

02:58comply with the gun ban.

03:00Meanwhile, the police are still hunting down his accomplice, who also may be a member of

03:05the military.
