00:00The Davao City Police Office intensified its ordinance, banning the use of firecrackers, which has been in effect since 2002.
00:09This comes after a recent case in Talomo, Davao City, where an improvised tin can, or lantaka, was used.
00:17The parent of the minor responsible immediately surrendered the child.
00:21Despite the heightened enforcement, an 8-year-old child was brought to the Southern Philippines Medical Center yesterday
00:27with a minor injury to the right hand.
00:30Sustained from a firecracker.
00:32The child was immediately discharged.
00:34Dr. Antonio Solara Jr. of SPMC noted that this is the first injury recorded within Davao City since 2010,
00:43as other cases referred to the hospital are from outside Davao City.
00:47According to Police Regional Office 11, many parts of the Davao region have already implemented firecracker ban.
00:55PR-11 continues to urge residents to find safer ways to welcome the new year that do not compromise public safety.
