There has been a downward trend since 1960 in the number of children born in the EU. In 2024, Romania recorded its lowest natality rate in the last 100 years.

00:07less than 150,000 babies were born last year.
00:12Rural parts of the country have seen schools and kindergartens forced to shut down due
00:17to the lack of children available to attend courses.
00:21In urban areas, many are choosing to put their career first and instead have children at
00:25a later age.
00:30My daily expenses don't allow me to raise another child, so I'm thinking about a career
00:36for now.
00:37I want to become a professional, both me and my husband.
00:40The situation is quite dramatic.
00:42Last year we had 17 deaths and unfortunately no voting.
00:51Romanian specialists are attributing the changes to a normal process of modernization, which
00:56should not scare anyone.
00:58Pointing out that the same process is underway in many other European countries.
