Jumeirah Project injects art into one of the oldest areas in Dubai

Why is there art all around the Jumeirah area in Dubai? Welcome to the Jumeirah Project, the third phase of turning Dubai into an open-air museum.

00:00The Jumeirah Project was launched in November 2018 by the ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Hamad Rashid

00:14Al Maktoum, to celebrate the spirit of Jumeirah.

00:17We're working on this project with different government entities like Dubai Municipality,

00:23RTA, DPCM, and Dubai Sports Council.

00:26People can see the murals along the street from Dubai Canal to Nassim Hotel.

00:33Through this project, we're trying to translate the vision of His Highness Sheikh Hamad to

00:41turn Dubai into an open-air museum.

00:43So wherever you go, you can see art.

00:45Wherever you go, you can see the project reflecting the culture of Dubai.

00:56It's my first mural, and I'm so proud that I'm one of the selected artists to represent

01:09the Jumeirah Project.

01:11My experience with this project is really great, as it gives me and the rest of the

01:18artists the opportunity to share and learn from each other.

01:22Also, to deliver the messages of Jumeirah people who used to live in this area.

01:32Basically, my piece is to represent how the caring mother used to give her care to her daughter.

01:41And, of course, I added a little touches, as you can see.

01:45The butterfly indicates a new life.

01:48So basically, I tried to combine those two beautiful meanings in one artwork.

01:55Usually, the artists love to draw in a quiet place.

01:58So this area, actually, is full of life.

02:02So it was my first time to deal with people outside and to be active with the society.

02:09Actually, it's a very nice experience, because even if I'm going to stop painting one day,

02:16people will still remember us through our paintings, through our works.

02:21So whenever they see our paintings or murals on Jumeirah Road, they will still remember

02:29that, oh, Latifa, she did a painting in this place, or Saqaf, or even any other artist.

02:36It was a good experience.

02:38We also included art students to be part of the project, so they can learn from the international artists,

02:51the skill, the techniques, and in the future, they can become muralists, as we said.

02:57So Brand Dubai, the creative arm of Dubai Media Office, is supporting locals through these projects.

03:04We are supporting the students to become a part of our projects to beautify the city

03:11and turning it into an open-air museum.
