Canada vows response to US tariffs

Canada promises a swift response to the 25 percent US tariff hike on steel and aluminum imports, escalating trade tensions.

00:06tariffs announced by President Trump after he confirmed he is imposing a 25% import tax

00:13on steel and aluminium entering the U.S. from the 12th of March.

00:19Canada is the top exporter of both metals to the U.S., but Trump believes these policies

00:25will help protect jobs and industries stateside, even if it raises prices for the ordinary

00:31Americans.

00:35Donald Trump had the swipe of a pen once again inflicting sweeping changes on the U.S. economy

00:41and that of its rivals and allies.

00:44It's 25% without exceptions or exemptions and that's all countries no matter where it

00:49comes from, all countries.

00:51If made in the United States, however, United States of America, there is no tariff, zero.

00:58So if it's made in the United States, there is no tariff.

01:02All you have to do is make it in the United States.

01:05We don't need it from another country.

01:07Amongst the hardest hit, America's neighbour to the north.

01:10Canada exports over the border six million tonnes of steel products and more than three

01:16million tonnes of aluminium products per year.

01:19That's more than every other country combined.
