00:00Streets were blocked off and Abu Dhabi's iconic corniche came alive as thousands of
00:09age group triathlon participants gathered to compete in one of the world's most exciting
00:13and picturesque triathlon events, the ITU World Triathlon Abu Dhabi.
00:17The athletes put their endurance to the ultimate test in this multi-discipline event, which
00:21sees competitors swim, bike and run in the fastest time they can and features three distances
00:26to suit people of all abilities, the sprint, olympic and maxi categories.
00:31The age group event is open to everyone and athletes that take part typically compete
00:34for themselves and to better their own personal times as well as the prestige of saying they've
00:38finished.
00:39It was good, it was fun, a bit warm but nice.
00:40What was the best part, what was the hardest part, what would you say?
00:41The hardest part is waiting to start, the best part is finishing.
00:42Really, it's been part of an event I think, more than anything else and it's not necessarily
00:43about race day, it's about the build up, the cycling and the, well for me personally, the
00:44running and the cycling and all that kind of stuff, you know.
01:00Wonderful condition, the water was not too cold so you didn't need a sweatsuit I think
01:04and we had a good wind so it was good to bike, one way it was a bit tough but at the end
01:10it was a breeze coming back.
01:11Because I'm not a very good swimmer I learned it for one year and so I'm not so good in
01:12it.
01:13But I won it for me and I finished and I'm so happy.
01:14Are you going to do it again next year?
01:15Yeah, I reckon, but I'm not doing it tomorrow, I'll tell you that.
01:16But I did it on the three, I wanted to do it in three hours and I did it in like two,
01:17four, yeah I think so I'm really happy with it.
01:31Others are there to win the group and coming out on top in Abu Dhabi can be a stepping
01:35stone to higher levels in the future.
01:37One minute disappointed, one minute, one minute, we're good, we're good, we're good.
01:41Go Saudi Arabia, go, one minute, next year I will make it.
01:45But I find the surrounding is very, very marvellous and the organisation was perfect.
01:53I did a very good swimming and then a very good biking, just the running was difficult
01:57because of the warmth, it was really difficult but I just finished and it was a good day
02:02for me.
02:03What discipline was the hardest would you say, like the swimming, the running?
02:05The run, the run definitely was pretty, pretty, pretty tough.
02:09It's my first one of the season so I haven't run off the bike very much this year and plus
02:14it's quite warm out here.
02:16The ITU World Triathlon Abu Dhabi debuted in 2015 with over 2,000 age group participants
02:21and this year it once again drew in over 2,000 competitors, all converging on Abu Dhabi to
02:26challenge themselves in one of the most gruelling sports in the world.
