00:09The rules of this tournament, I found myself wondering this yesterday, what's going to

00:14be different about this tournament?

00:16It's all NHL rules except for three things are different.

00:20Which can lead us to three conversations.

00:21Would we want these three changes for the NHL?

00:26And should they have done more?

00:27So the first rule that's different.

00:29There are no shootouts.

00:30Okay.

00:32I'm into that.

00:33I don't think there are shootouts.

00:36I guess there are shootouts.

00:38Overtime is ten minutes.

00:39Ten minutes.

00:40So it would be rarer to get a shootout.

00:42So it's three-on-three overtime for ten minutes?

00:44For ten minutes.

00:45Okay.

00:46So shootouts will be very rare.

00:48Because the odds of getting one in a six-game tournament or whatever this is going to end

00:51up being is very low.

00:52Even though three-on-three overtime, in my opinion, is very broken in the NHL, it has

00:57been ruined for the most part by these teams that just play possession and hold the puck

01:04Now a team can hold it for ten minutes.

01:07Rule change number two.

01:09The 3-2-1 point system is in place.

01:16I mean, at least it's confirmation the NHL knows it exists.

01:25I mean, it's an NHL event, so I guess you might think it's a trial run, but you only

01:30have four teams playing.

01:32The standings can only be so different, whatever.

01:35I don't know what they'll learn from it in this trial run, but 3-2-1 point system.

01:39And then rule change number three is that the top two teams advance to a one-game final,

01:43which will use the overtime format of the NHL playoffs, which is just sudden death.

01:47You just play until someone scores.

01:48So the final game is the top two teams in the points on the 3-2-1 point system, and

01:53they play one game, and if it goes to overtime, it's sudden death.

01:57So really the only thing that they changed from the NHL format to the Four Nations face-off

02:02is the way we do points in endgames.
