So anyway, the Four Nations face-off begins tomorrow.
00:03
I'm so excited.
00:04
Canada, Finland, Sweden, USA, best-on-best NHL tournament.
00:09
The rules of this tournament, I found myself wondering this yesterday, what's going to
00:14
be different about this tournament?
00:16
It's all NHL rules except for three things are different.
00:20
Which can lead us to three conversations.
00:21
Would we want these three changes for the NHL?
00:26
And should they have done more?
00:27
So the first rule that's different.
00:29
There are no shootouts.
00:30
Okay.
00:31
Good.
00:32
I'm into that.
00:33
I don't think there are shootouts.
00:34
Well, you know what?
00:35
I take that back.
00:36
I guess there are shootouts.
00:37
Go ahead.
00:38
Overtime is ten minutes.
00:39
Ten minutes.
00:40
So it would be rarer to get a shootout.
00:42
So it's three-on-three overtime for ten minutes?
00:44
For ten minutes.
00:45
Okay.
00:46
So shootouts will be very rare.
00:47
Yeah.
00:48
Because the odds of getting one in a six-game tournament or whatever this is going to end
00:51
up being is very low.
00:52
Even though three-on-three overtime, in my opinion, is very broken in the NHL, it has
00:57
been ruined for the most part by these teams that just play possession and hold the puck
01:01
for five minutes.
01:02
Whatever.
01:03
Yeah.
01:04
Now a team can hold it for ten minutes.
01:05
Overtime's ten minutes.
01:07
Rule change number two.
01:09
The 3-2-1 point system is in place.
01:11
Okay.
01:12
Good.
01:13
How about it?
01:14
Love it.
01:15
The 3-2-1 point system.
01:16
I mean, at least it's confirmation the NHL knows it exists.
01:20
It is funny.
01:22
Is it a trial run?
01:23
Is that what's happening?
01:25
I mean, it's an NHL event, so I guess you might think it's a trial run, but you only
01:30
have four teams playing.
01:32
The standings can only be so different, whatever.
01:35
I don't know what they'll learn from it in this trial run, but 3-2-1 point system.
01:39
And then rule change number three is that the top two teams advance to a one-game final,
01:43
which will use the overtime format of the NHL playoffs, which is just sudden death.
01:47
You just play until someone scores.
01:48
So the final game is the top two teams in the points on the 3-2-1 point system, and
01:53
they play one game, and if it goes to overtime, it's sudden death.
01:57
So really the only thing that they changed from the NHL format to the Four Nations face-off
02:02
is the way we do points in endgames.
02:06
Should anything else have been different?
