00:00Donegal continues to be devastated by storm A1. Thousands left without

00:04electricity and water over the last week, many of whom are elderly, vulnerable and

00:09living in defective concrete homes. I just want the government in this

00:15chamber over the next few weeks to realise the devastation that's happened

00:20in Donegal. Affected homeowners face huge safety risks living in homes that are

00:25defective. The red wind warning came too late. The government needs to address

00:32health and safety as soon as possible to treat this crisis, the humanitarian

00:37crisis that's going on with defective concrete homes. There needs to be far

00:41more and far better coordination between the government and Donegal County

00:46Council. It's clear that the west and northwest were impacted most due to lack

00:51of resources and failure to prepare. Many services were also severely

00:56impacted. A Montessori school in Donegal was without power for

01:02over a week which affected over 30 families who had no access to childcare.

01:06The parents were forced to take significant time off work. Twelve days

01:10later there's still premises in Donegal without electricity and without water.

01:14There's no doubt the impact of this storm will be felt for a very long time.

01:19I would like to take this opportunity to pay my respects to Caspar Dudek's

01:24family, a young man killed tragically in Donegal in Ruffo through this storm.

01:29His loss will be felt in his local community of Lifford, across the whole

01:34county. Our thoughts are with his loved ones at this sad time.
