Southern Hemisphere's largest performance horse sale underway in Tamworth

The biggest performance horse sale in the Southern Hemisphere is underway in Tamworth.

00:00Today, here in Temworth, we have 600 horses that are going to be sold across four days.

00:09And we're talking about horses from right across the nation, from every state.

00:13There's horses here from WA that have already been through the arena this morning.

00:19And when we talk about performance horses, we're talking about horses that go to camp

00:24drafting arenas, competing cutting, used for stock work on stations, generally quarter

00:29horses and stock horse breeds.

00:32And if you're wondering about the value, well, you could probably buy a house for the cost

00:37of some of these horses.

00:38The record still stands at $550,000.

00:41But perhaps someone who can give us a little more insight into these horses and selling

00:49them is auctioneer Colby Eade.

00:51Colby, it is all going on behind us here.

00:53No, definitely.

00:54And it's our first day of selling.

00:56We've had a big week prior to this with events, camp draft and challenge incentive events.

01:01So we've had two days of pre-works and we've cracked in here at 8 o'clock this morning

01:07in the first day of selling.

01:09How many horses have you sold?

01:10Because this is like a relay event, isn't it?

01:12You've just come off there to hand over to another auctioneer.

01:16No, definitely.

01:17And we've got a dedicated, passionate team that are from all over Australia.

01:22We sell 20-odd horses in our auctioneer run, and I've just come off my run only just a

01:29few moments ago.

01:30Tell me about the pressure on you, because you're out there to try and get the best possible

01:34price across 600 horses here, and everyone wants the best price.

01:41How do you go about that?

01:43I think it's a big knowledge of the industry, of the pedigrees, and all our auctioneers

01:49are involved in the horse industry or the performance industry in one way, whether it

01:53be camp drafting, challenge, or any horse disciplines around the country.

01:57So I think that's a big part of it, but the auctioneer team that we've got are probably

02:03experience-wise are over 200 years combined experience of our team, and they're people

02:09that are dedicated auctioneers that we do this day in, day out, right from all over

02:13the country.

02:14Well Colby, you've got to get back up there auctioneering, but I tell you what, a big,

02:19big day here, another big three days of selling, and we will wait to see if another record's

02:25broken.

02:26I think we've already seen, so far around, upwards of $70,000 spent so far, and no doubt

02:32more to come.
