Car thieves target northern Melbourne suburbs

00:00So at the moment Operation Boston has seen some really good results in Marybeck.

00:05We've been able to recover 26 stolen cars to date and nearly 130 false number plates.

00:12We have made several arrests and we have more arrests pending with persons of interest that

00:18we are focused on. I think it's fundamental for all the community to be very vigilant when

00:24A, locking their vehicles and in particular ensuring that there are not valuable items

00:29displayed in the vehicle, i.e. having a laptop or an extra set of keys in the car,

00:36anything of value, a phone, even coins within the car. There are opportunities for opportunistic

00:43thieves to break into the vehicle to steal what they can see. So if you can actually

00:48leave valuables in your house or conceal them within the vehicle so they're not visible,

00:53that is ultimately the best way to go.
