00:00Newly appointed PhilHealth president and CEO Dr. Edwin Mercado plans to reform the agency's financial system by reviewing

00:08expenses and eliminating wasted funds to improve efficiency.

00:11He also claims to digitize, claim reviews to prevent fraud, ensure proper fund use, and enhance services.

00:18One of his priorities is expanding PhilHealth benefit packages to cover more medical services.

00:24Mercado also plans to focus on diseases that cause

00:27catastrophic spending with a goal of reducing patient out-of-pocket expenses ranging from 45 to 47 percent to 30 percent.

00:35This move aims to alleviate the financial burden on Filipinos seeking medical care.
