00:00Muhyiddin Yassin has maintained his not-guilty plea in a sedition case brought against him
00:06at the Kuala Lumpur High Court.
00:10The former prime minister is facing one charge of making seditious statements during the
00:13Nanggiri by-election campaign in Guamusang, Kelantan last year.
00:19Lawyer Amer Hamzah Arshad, representing Muhyiddin, informed the court that the defense intends
00:24to file a reference application to question the validity of certain provisions in the
00:29Sedition Act 1948 at the federal court.
00:33Justice Jamil Hussein fixed March 3rd for case management pending the defense's filing
00:37of its intended application.
00:41Muhyiddin is alleged to have claimed that he obtained the majority support of 115 MPs
00:45but was not invited by the then-Yang Dipertuan Agung to be sworn in as prime minister following
00:51the 2022 general election.
00:54If found guilty, the Perikatan Nasional chairman and Bersatu president will face a jail term
00:58that could extend to three years or a maximum fine of RM5,000.
01:04Muhyiddin was initially charged at Guamusang Sessions Court last August.
01:09On November 27th last year, Justice Azmi Abdullah allowed his application to have the case transferred
01:14to the Kuala Lumpur High Court.
