00:00U.S. President Donald Trump has warned BRICS member countries against replacing the U.S.
00:06dollar as a reserve currency by repeating a 100% tariff strike he made weeks after winning
00:11the November presidential elections.
00:14He emphasized the need for a firm commitment from these seemingly hostile nations that
00:19they would neither create a new BRICS currency nor back any other currency to replace the
00:24U.S. dollar.
00:25At the time, Russia said that any attempt by the U.S. to compel countries to use the
00:29dollar would backfire.
00:31The BRICS grouping includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, and a few other
00:37countries that joined in the past couple of years.
00:40BRICS does not have a common currency, but long-running discussions on the subject have
00:44gained some momentum after the West imposed sanctions on Russia over the war in Ukraine.
00:50Trump added that there was no chance BRICS would replace the U.S. dollar in international
00:54trade and warned that any country attempting to do so would say hello to tariffs and goodbye
00:59to America.
