00:00Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will chair a special meeting this evening involving top

00:06government officials to discuss the 24% tariff imposed by the U.S. on Malaysia, effective

00:12April 9th.

00:13Anwar acknowledged that Malaysia would be affected by the U.S.'s reciprocal tariff,

00:19but pointed out that the rate was lower than that imposed on most of Malaysia's neighboring

00:23countries.

00:54Prime Minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz also reached out to Malaysia's regional partners and would

00:59attend a meeting of ASEAN trade ministers next Thursday to coordinate the response.

01:04On whether Malaysia would impose countermeasures against the U.S., Anwar said the government

01:32was carefully assessing its options.

01:35He said that what matters is not retaliation, but ensuring the strength of the Malaysian

01:39economy, especially in the semiconductor sector, which accounts for 60% to 65% of Malaysian

01:46exports to the U.S.
