Scott Parker responds to claims that his Burnley side are boring

Scott Parker doesn't feel that his side are boring, but are still a work in progress to get to where he wants them to be.

00:07Defensively we've been pretty, like I said, remarkable. We've been very, very good on the defensive phase.

00:15That's not the way that I see solely us wanting to get promoted. We want both sides.

00:23That's not a sole decision on us, or certainly me as a coach and us as players and us as a group,

00:29that, OK, let's just be this defensively really rock-solid team that get to the end of the season and hope we get promoted.

00:37We want both. That's the intention. Every day we're trying to be this defensively rock-solid team

00:44and on the flip side of that, trying to be an attacking, free-flowing team that looks the full package.

00:51After seven months of this season and after a brand new group coming in, the absolute reality is that

01:00that can't fully happen in such a quick space of time. We've put a tonne of work in, like we've said,

01:07to build a group which is united together and a defensive unit that has been clearly evident of the bulk of what's gone in

01:16and the players that are seeing that. On the flip side, there's elements constantly, which I keep saying,

01:22that we're trying to nudge along. Like I said, if anyone was out there believing that we're all sitting here

01:30or I'm sitting here going, yeah, this is us and this is what we're going to be, then that's not the case.

01:34This is a progress. This is us trying to develop and we're going to maintain that.

01:39It was only a week ago we scored five goals against Plymouth and maybe some will just sit there and easily say,

01:44well, that's probably what should happen. If only the game was that easy.

01:48Perception of teams or perception of what a table looks like or players on team sheets is vastly different to what the reality is.

01:56We scored goals there and at the weekend or Monday night, we don't score against Leeds or the top of the league.

02:04Likewise, a team that are XG in around about 1.8, 2-point goals a game, we reduce them to about 0.37.

02:12I get they're just numbers, but we didn't score against Leeds and quickly the narrative swings that we're a really boring team.

02:20That was the game. It wasn't a classic. I'm not going to sit here and deny that. I get that absolutely totally.

02:26Was that our intention to go into that game? No.

02:30Our intention was to go into that game fundamentally to put a marker down for us to replicate what we did against Plymouth.

02:37We didn't manage to do that. What we did manage to do was pretty incredible on the defensive side of things.

02:45What we didn't manage to execute was us trying to be a bit of a threat. We keep working on that score.
