What should be done about benefit cheats?

With a rise in online videos of people bragging about their benefit scams, we’re asking people in Newport what they think should be done to combat the problem.

00:00Hiya, Billy. There's some people out there, it's not their own fault.

00:04They've been laid off, like the steelworks and all that.

00:07It's not their fault at all.

00:09But they deserve it, they've got families.

00:12But the ones who are scheming on the things,

00:15they should be prosecuted, if you ask me.

00:21Yeah, I just think it's disgusting, especially what they're doing.

00:25It's the long-term effect of everything.

00:29For a massive length of time, yes, because I remember...

00:32I'm in my 70s, and I can remember asking my dad,

00:36why would people do that?

00:38You know, claiming benefits when they're not entitled to it,

00:44or that they're working, or, you know, just, as you say, scamming.

00:48Yeah, maybe a bit more should be done, though, shouldn't it?

00:51Maybe, you know, the police should be on it a little bit more

00:54and start protecting the people.

00:57So, yeah.
