00:00An attack on the police force laid out for everyone to see, discovered by officers on
00:07this Sunday afternoon patrol.
00:09On a public holiday when our police officers are out working hard, keeping us safe, it's
00:13just a kick in the guts to be quite frank.
00:15This wall names each of those officers over 160 years who have lost their lives in the
00:20line of duty.
00:21Authorities say the Wall of Remembrance in the heart of Sydney was vandalised in the
00:25early hours of Saturday morning.
00:28So there's a number of my mates whose names are on there and I'm in touch with their children.
00:32That place is essentially a grave site for me and a grave site for those families.
00:37The Premier called the defacing of the memorial disgusting behaviour and lower than low.
00:42Opposition leader Mark Speakman branded it a disgraceful insult to officers.
00:47It comes as police investigate a wave of anti-Semitic vandalism in Sydney.
00:51I am concerned that people are expressing their hate in very visible ways that is damaging
00:58property that doesn't belong to them.
01:00After pursuing several leads into the attack on the police memorial, a 43-year-old man
01:05was arrested in Glebe.
01:07If you are out there being a moron and if you are out there committing these sorts of
01:13attacks, then I say to you, be careful because you will end up in the clink.
01:21The City of Sydney is helping with the immediate clean up but a full restoration is expected
01:25to take some time.
01:27The Police Commissioner says it's unclear whether it can be repaired or if it will need
01:31replacing.
01:32I imagine having a look at this damage that it will take a stonemason and a great deal
01:37of effort to repair it.
01:38The Commissioner says she's determined to keep the monument open to the public.
