Protesters gather at Invasion Day rallies across Australia

Tens of thousands of people have gathered for invasion day rallies in capital cities and regional towns with organisers describing the protests as a space for truth-telling, mourning and solidarity.

00:00From the beach to buildings of colonial heritage, First Nations people and allies marked today

00:14as the anniversary of the beginning of colonisation.

00:18And what came after?

00:19The forced removal of Aboriginal kids in care, you know, the high rate of Aboriginal people

00:24incarcerated and the high rate of Aboriginal people being unalive and killed in custody.

00:28There is a war on black children.

00:31Our children are dying at the end of the rope and it's got to stop.

00:35For our work, for our village, Aboriginal land.

00:39Crowds at the Melbourne Rally were quite big but here at the Sydney Invasion Day Rally

00:44speakers said that the numbers weren't as big as previous years.

00:48But the message remains the same, that the 26th of January is not a day to celebrate.

00:55Activists also calling out new struggles.

00:58This year is an important year.

01:01What we are coming up against is the rise of fascism, the rise of Trumpism running across

01:06the world and we need a man of face to face.

01:10A gathering of a far-right group in Adelaide didn't stop tens of thousands of people around

01:16the country hearing what Mob had to say.

01:19That's the sovereignty that war in Australia continues to deny and we ain't going nowhere.

01:26We want respect, we want acknowledgement, we want justice.

01:30Invasion Day 2025, sovereignty now is said.

01:38After marching in the heat, many wrapped the day at community picnics, festivals and concerts.
