David Hale: Weakening Iran will be a priority for Trump

US President Donald Trump will try to take advantage of Iran being weakened as that is a major priority for him, former US Special Envoy for Peace in the Middle East David Hale says.

00:00We have another Trump administration before us now. Do you expect any significant shift,

00:05first of all, with regards to Washington's approach to Israeli and Palestinian affairs?

00:12Yes, I do suspect that there will be a shift, although it's important to underscore that there

00:18was really an unprecedented combination of forces between the outgoing and the incoming

00:23administrations to secure this ceasefire deal in Gaza, which is a really good sign.

00:28But I think the philosophy of the Trump administration is likely to, I think,

00:33sort of widen the aperture, widen the lens, and look at the entire region, particularly at Iran,

00:40and how the United States can really take full advantage of the fact that the campaign against

00:47Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran has really reversed the fortunes of Tehran.

00:52This is a major opportunity for them.
