00:00UEM Lestra Berhad's 1GW hybrid solar power project under Malaysia's Corporate Renewable
00:07Energy Supply Scheme is paving the way for the nation's renewable energy future.
00:13Energy Commission CEO Abdul Razif Daud called the project a promising step toward achieving
00:18Malaysia's 2050 net-zero emissions target, emphasising UEM Lestra's role as a first
00:24mover under the CREST framework.
00:26We're confident this project is bankable with the demand from the objector on green
00:32energy and the creativity and innovative way from the developer, as well as the access
00:42to the capital.
00:44When we have the first successful project, it will encourage other participants to study
00:51and to see how this project will be implemented, will be completed on time and so on.
01:00On January 17th, UEM Lestra, a wholly-owned subsidiary and the green energy arm of UEM
01:06Group Berhad, announced it had secured offtakers, including Hong Kong-based ESR Group, for the
01:12first phase of its RM2.5 billion hybrid solar power project in Segama, Johor.
01:17The project spans 1,700 acres and features a 500-megawatt alternating current interconnection
01:24point.
01:25It will also feature an estimated 750-megawatt peak of solar capacity and a battery energy
01:31storage system capable of generating over 1,000 gigawatt-hours of green energy annually.
01:38The Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry hailed the agreement as a milestone
01:42for the CREST framework, showcasing Malaysia's ability to attract foreign direct investment
01:47while driving economic growth.
01:49Razip stressed that the battery storage integrated into UEM Lestra's solar project addresses
01:55challenges like intermittency and grid stability by ensuring firmer energy output.
02:01So that will help the system as a whole when you have a firm output, less intermittence,
02:11less risk of causing instability to the whole grid, the whole power grid, national power grid.
02:23So I'm sure the economic is right, and the policy is right, and the technical also right.
02:33Those are the ingredients that will move us together toward greenhouse gas net zero 2050.
