CattleVR is an immersive virtual reality experience that examines cattle handling training.

00:00Hi, I'm Kat from Think Digital, the creators of FarmVR, and I'm here today with Dr Mandy

00:06Carr from the University of Adelaide to talk about CattleVR, a tool that we have created

00:11to help teach people about flight zones and safety in the yards when handling cattle.

00:16The students will put the headset on and they'll come face to face with our Droughtmaster animal.

00:21Around the animal we've created a zone, in that zone we've created an inner and an outer

00:25edge for a pressure zone.

00:27What I like to be able to do is have it up for other students to see, as well as for

00:31me to see what the students are doing.

00:33I suppose the best thing about VR is that we can replicate those unsafe experiences

00:37without actually causing harm or injury to people or to animals.

00:42So what we were finding, students often come into programs without a lot of cattle handling

00:46experience and as a result they were behaving unsafely.

00:49Yeah, they were getting very unsafe, spooking the cattle, coming up behind them and then

00:53losing confidence to actually want to go in there again.

00:56So from one educator to another, CattleVR will allow you to innovate the classroom,

01:01have better student engagement and also has benefits for the animal.
