00:00The Karate Filipina Sports Federation has announced the schedule for the 6th edition of the Philippine National Karate Championships.

00:08Jamaica Bayaka has the details.

00:12Hundreds of karate athletes from across the Philippines are expected to participate in the 2024 Philippine National Karate Championships

00:21which will be held from February 28 to March 2 at the Tagaytay Combat Sports Complex.

00:27One of the highlights featured in the event will be a free Kumite seminar, seminars for coaches and referees,

00:34and the Karate Filipina's Grand Champion Coincident.

00:38The Karate Filipina's President Richard Lim shared what can be expected in this year's edition.

00:44We're hosting the World Youth Championships this coming 2026 in Manila.

00:49That's why we have this National Championships in Tagaytay.

00:5214 to 20 years old will be competing there and it will be part of their selection process.

00:57Of course, there will be another selection for 2026 for this, but more or less,

01:04the winners will be part of that pool, but not necessarily they will be the ones representing the Philippines.

01:14So, they have to keep up.

01:17Aside from the regular competition categories, two Master Kata event categories for the 55 to 65 years old division

01:25and 65 and above will be added to the tournament.

01:28The former Karate Champion also expressed his interest in joining.

01:33That is part of the promotion as well.

01:36As we all know, Attorney Al Agra is promoting the Masters Pinoy, right?

01:43So that's why we included the Masters Pinoy category in the National Championships,

01:51more or less, for them to be aware that there will be Masters Pinoy so that they can prepare.

01:59This is not being discussed at stake here that if they win a gold medal in the national team, they're done.

02:09But I mean this is self-satisfaction.

02:11I mean, at the age of 55 and above, you still get to compete, right?

02:19And then, more or less, if you win, wherever this is directed, if there are international championships,

02:26it's a nice feeling. I mean, I myself am interested to join.

02:31The tournament will serve as preparation for the national Karate team in their major competitions this year.
