00:00In Venezuela, all is being ready for the inauguration this Friday 10th, January 10th,

00:05of President Nicolás Maduro for his third consecutive term.

00:08For that we are going straight live to Caracas in Venezuela with our correspondent

00:12Belén de los Santos for all the details of what is happening today on this occasion.

00:20Hello Luis, exactly we are here in Caracas,

00:24exactly from the Yaguno Bridge in downtown Caracas.

00:28And this is very early in the morning, a regular Friday morning,

00:32but this sector of the city is with high expectations because just a few blocks away

00:38is going to take place today the presidential inauguration of President Nicolás Maduro,

00:44who was elected on July 28th, presidential elections.

00:47And today, January 10th, is the presidential inauguration.

00:51That means that the third mandate of President Maduro begins officially today,

00:56as he is swearing in before the National Assembly.

00:59So, let's recall a little bit how we get to this day.

01:03So, according to the constitution, the authorities from the National Assembly,

01:07the new authorities for the new legislative period that were reinstated and reconfirmed

01:13on Sunday, are taking President Maduro's oath.

01:17And this is happening as it always happens in the National Assembly,

01:21that is just a few blocks away.

01:24So, this is a normal day here in Caracas with all the security measures,

01:29of course, that mark this important day.

01:32The streets otherwise are calm.

01:35We come from a day of demonstrations that was yesterday in Caracas.

01:39So, Thursday, as you know, as we have been reporting here from Venezuela,

01:45it was a day of peaceful demonstrations.

01:48People took to the streets.

01:49We had reports from all over the city, also from all over the country,

01:54with people coming out in support of this institutional day.

01:59One of the most important things to keep in mind is that this swearing-in ceremony,

02:05this presidential inauguration, is a key step in reaffirming the institutionality

02:12and just the normal peace of the city, of the country,

02:17something that has been on the spotlight internationally.

02:21And this is a very important thing to point out from here.

02:25That is why we are out on the streets.

02:26That is why we are reporting.

02:29Of course, any swearing-in ceremony has a lot of media attention,

02:33but we know that with Venezuela, that takes a particular twist.

02:37And it's important to reinstate that here in Caracas,

02:41we are out and that everything is going according to normal.

02:45The demonstrations yesterday were massive,

02:48and what is happening today has to do with the beginning of this

02:52third six-year mandate for President Nicolás Maduro.

02:56Also, an important thing to point out is the international presence at this event.

03:02So, one of the things that President Nicolás Maduro, for the past month,

03:06since the elections up to this moment,

03:08has been reinforcing is the idea of making Venezuela

03:13the epicenter of an international fight against fascism, against the far right.

03:19Of course, this has been tough months for Venezuela in terms of the media

03:24and international pressure from the violent actions

03:28after the presidential elections onward.

03:31And a way to respond to this international pressure

03:35has been, on the one hand, and the internal front,

03:38to go back to the people, to the communes.

03:41So, reinforcing the popular power here in the country

03:45with the popular consultations, with the true sense of democracy,

03:49that is the democracy of the peoples,

03:51with different political activities that have to do with taking back that power,

03:57that is really the mandate of the people.

03:59And also, on an international level,

04:02just gathering all the international support

04:05in the face of these far right attempts

04:08and international pressures from media campaigns, for example.

04:12And the International Anti-Fascism Congress, for example,

04:17that have been going on,

04:18are gathering here today now again for the swearing-in ceremony.

04:23And that is the International Anti-Fascist Festival that is also going on.

04:28So, we have activities on the streets.

04:31Of course, this is very early in the morning,

04:33but Caracas is expected to have all the people back again on the streets today.

04:38We have sound checks, we have posts waiting for the people to arrive.

04:42This is about to be yet another popular party, as it was yesterday as well.

04:48And the international guests are also here

04:51to continue their anti-fascist festival.
