Ketua Dewan Ekonomi Nasional (DEN) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan mengatakan masuknya Indonesia sebagai anggota BRICS akan memberikan sederet keuntungan. Pertama, membuka akses pasar yang lebih luas dan menguntungkan.  Luhut menilai dengan bergabungnya RI sebagai anggota BRICS menegaskan posisi Indonesia negara yang berdaulat dan independen, serta tidak berpihak kepada satu negara tertentu saja.
