Hi guys, my name's Riley, I'm a zookeeper here at Tasmania Zoo and we're very excited
00:26
to announce that we've recently had six little baby meerkats born here with us, so they're
00:31
very cute and adorable as you can see.
00:33
These guys were born just before Christmas, only a few days before Christmas, to our very
00:38
experienced parents.
00:39
So we've got dad Jamie here and their mum's name is Rizzo.
00:44
These babies are actually the fourth litter of meerkats we've had born in this family
00:48
in the last year and they took mum and dad's number of children from six children in total
00:53
to twelve children all up overnight.
00:55
So very big, bumpy numbers for us, but very cute and adorable, very exciting.
01:05
So these little meerkats live as part of our group that we do animal encounters with, which
01:10
is awesome as well because visitors can come in here, hang out with our meerkats, especially
01:16
see the cute little babies nice and close, and as they get a little bit bigger and a
01:19
bit more confident, they'll come over here as well and feed out of people's hands, which
01:23
is a pretty awesome way to get to know about an animal and share zookeeper's love of the
01:29
animals with the visitors as well.
01:42
So the zoos open from 10am to 4pm every day and now's the perfect time of year to come
01:47
and check out these cute little babies whilst they're still tiny and adorable.
01:51
They do grow very fast, so you've got to get in fast to see them when they're this cute.
