00:00Why? It's always a good question. Why do we do Dakar?

00:16After the first Dakar you say, I'll never come back.

00:21When you're at home and you've done 11 Dakars, you don't want to look at television.

00:27You start thinking about coming back and then it's a sort of disease, I think.

00:32We said, OK, we don't want to do the normal rally anymore, we're too old for that.

00:37We are going to do the classic rally, but we didn't know what it exactly was.

00:41Somebody needs a challenge and it's nice to have some fun.

00:58This project came about because Hans bought a Dakar version of an Audi S1.

01:08That's how I got involved and my old team mate from Cross Dakar.

01:13We brought everything together and asked Autosport Vekul if he could build three more cars.

01:27For sure it's a replica, it's built in the Netherlands and it's based on an S1.

01:33They produced quite a lot of S1 quattros for a normal rally, a historic rally.

01:41So it's exactly the same engine as in the old days, with even more horsepower, I think 600 plus.

01:57Every time we race the car, not only drive it, but when we start to race,

02:02we get a smile on our face because you feel yourself like when you were a little guy

02:07and you saw all the heroes, Cancun, Blomqvist, Röhrl.

02:13I like to drive and of course I'm not experienced in the classic Dakar and also the regularity, I don't know.

02:23I don't know what's going to happen in the next two weeks.

02:27I have no expectations, only I want to have fun with our team and also to drive sometimes a little bit fast.

02:36One last question, who is the best driver of the four?

02:39That's a good question, we know after two weeks.

02:42Your biggest opponent is your teammate, so now I have three other teammates, so we will see.

02:48But as long as we have fun, then it's okay.
