Man dies after being shot by police outside NSW hospital

A man has died after being shot by police outside a hospital on the New South Wales mid-north coast. It's alleged the man pointed a gun at officers before he was shot.

00:00The critical incident occurred here, at the Manning Base Hospital car park, just behind

00:09Police were initially called to a house at the nearby township of Wingham, just west

00:13of Taree, after reports a man had fired shots into the air.

00:18Around half an hour later, they engaged with a man here at the hospital car park.

00:24Police allege the man pointed a firearm at officers before he was shot.

00:28He was treated with first aid at the site before ambulance paramedics arrived, and was

00:33later taken inside the hospital, where he died a short time later.

00:38The State Crime Command's Homicide Squad will investigate, and there will also be an independent

00:43review.
