ACT police hold press conference after man drowns in Murrumbidgee River

A 21-year-old died at Pine Island Reserve on Sunday, December 29, 2024. Detective Acting Inspector Alex Chapman spoke to the press after the tragedy.

00:00So sadly a 21-year-old man has died following an incident at Pine Island yesterday afternoon

00:07About 6 p.m. Police and emergency services responded to reports of a man

00:13Who had failed to resurface while swimming in the Murrumbidgee River

00:18The search for the man commenced and AFP divers found the man about 7.50 p.m

00:25So sadly he was with his friends and family at the time that he drowned

00:30And that was a distressing scene for obviously his friends and family and also for responding emergency services

00:37Police would like to take the opportunity just to remind all swimmers to be careful in and around our waterways
