00:00Lahar is still flowing in the Mayon Volcano, even though the weather has improved in Albay, according to PHIVOLCS.

00:07This is Ninio Luzes of PTV Legazpi.

00:12PHIVOLCS still does not rule out the possibility of a lahar flow in the Mayon Volcano,

00:18despite the good weather in the province of Albay today.

00:22In an interview with PTV Legazpi with Dr. Paul Alanis,

00:25resident volcanologist of PHIVOLCS Lingyon Hill Observatory Center in Longson, Legazpi,

00:29the province of Pagulan is still experiencing the possibility of a lahar flow

00:34due to the continuous debris caused by the volcano during the 2018 and 2023 eruptions.

00:39The possibility of a lahar flow has been reduced

00:45because the weather has improved.

00:49However, there are still isolated thunderstorms that can affect the province of Albay.

00:59There's still a possibility of sudden rains,

01:06and this can also still cause a lahar flow

01:11because even though the abnormal weather is over,

01:18the land is still saturated.

01:21According to Dr. Alanis,

01:2380 million cubic meters of debris was found in the body of the volcano

01:28caused by the 2018 Mayon eruption,

01:31and more or less 19 million cubic meters were caused by the 2023 eruptions.

01:37In 2018, it was around 80 million cubic meters,

01:49and in 2023, it was around 90 million cubic meters.

01:58But of course, that number is decreasing.

02:04Despite this, the local government of Barangay Meisi in the town of Daraga

02:09continues to monitor the possibility of a lahar flow due to the continuous rain.

02:15According to Captain Nito Alimania of Barangay Meisi,

02:19due to the continuous rain,

02:21they will immediately evacuate two groups to a safer area.

02:25We will monitor the lahar flow.

02:34We will see if the water level is really high.

02:39We will also evacuate the people in the lahar flow area.

02:52More than 1,000 people were evacuated to the evacuation centers,

02:57but since the rain is still weak, there is no reason to evacuate the residents.
