00:00FIVOX believes that the situation in Canlaon Volcano could get worse following the eruption yesterday.

00:07The agency also asked the public not to panic and to be alert.

00:16FIVOX did not remove the possibility that the situation in Canlaon Volcano could get worse following the eruption yesterday.

00:23That's why the agency strongly reminds the public not to panic and to be alert.

00:28According to FIVOX Director Teresito Bacolcol, the eruption yesterday was stronger than last June and even last year.

00:35FIVOX recorded 20 volcanic earthquakes in the last 24 hours.

00:40Bacolcol explained that when the magma rises, the volcanic earthquake increases.

00:45But when the magma is at the top, there is almost no record of it.

00:49We are still not sure if it calmed down because we are on alert level 3 and anything can happen.

00:54We may expect these things to escalate in the next few weeks.

00:59But of course, we are hoping that it won't.

01:01But we would expect that the possibility that this would escalate further is always there.

01:06In fact, we are suspecting that there will be shallow magma because for the past several days following the June 3 eruption,

01:18we had a lot of volcanic gases, sulfur dioxide.

01:22Bacolcol also added that 1,699 tons per day of sulfur dioxide was found yesterday.

01:29This means that something is wrong here.

01:32Based on the ground deformation instrument of FIVOX, there was an eruption at the top of the volcano.

01:38Along with the eruption of the volcano yesterday is the Pyroplastic Density Current or PDC.

01:44This is what erodes the volcanic ash, volcanic gases, and volcanic fragments below the volcano.

01:50It is very dangerous because it can reach up to 100 kilometers per hour.

01:55Yesterday, it reached a distance of 3.5 kilometers from the crater of the volcano that entered the 4-kilometer danger zone of Canlaon.

02:04That's the reason why we are raising the alert level because this may recur.

02:09This may happen again in the next few weeks.

02:13And maybe it will be even stronger.

02:15It will reach the 4-kilometer permanent danger zone.

02:19If there is an escalation of activities, we may extend the alert danger zone from 6 to 8 or probably 10.

02:27And if the alert level rises, this is what can be expected according to FIVOX.

02:31If the alert level rises to 4, there will be a lot of earthquakes because you will have a supply of magma.

02:38The magma is really rising and there will be a lot of phreatic eruptions.

02:43And the sulfuric gas will rise.

02:46So, it's not consistent. It won't fluctuate.

02:49Meanwhile, according to FIVOX, aside from the LGUs around the volcano,

02:53such as La Castellana, La Carlota, Bagus City, and Canlaon City,

02:57there are also ashfalls in Guimaras and Maguinsantiki that are more than 300 kilometers away.

03:02That's why FIVOX reminds the public to wear face masks and if possible, N95,

03:08to cover your nose and mouth.
