00:00The KL High Court has dismissed an application by Muar MP Syed Sadiq Syed Abdul Rahman for
00:08leave to challenge the government's decision to withdraw allocation intended for his constituency.
00:14Judge Datuk Wan Ahmad Fareed Wan Saleh, who made the ruling on Tuesday, said the application
00:20was not filed within the stipulated three-month period as required by the law.
00:25He also said matters of allocation are an executive matter which falls outside the
00:30court's purview.
00:32He pointed out that there were no provisions within the constitution which bound government
00:36agencies to allocate such funds to any MPs, regardless of their support for the government.
00:42When met by reporters after the proceedings, Syed Sadiq said he would file an appeal against
00:48the verdict.
00:49The MP and three Muar voters filed the application on April 23 and named the Prime Minister and
00:56the Malaysian government as the first and second respondents, respectively.
01:01They contend that the respondents violated Syed Sadiq's right to equality as an MP for
01:07Muar, as well as the rights of the three other applicants as voters in the constituency,
01:13as enshrined under Article 8 of the Federal Constitution.
