Powerful winds, pouring rain and pounding waves slam the West Coast

Storm after storm is causing repeated issues up and down the West Coast for the week of Christmas.

00:02We're dealing with a lot going on.

00:03We are, and it's like you hand-picked those icons

00:05for Christmas Eve.

00:06I mean, like, what would you draw, right,

00:07if Christmas Eve was a forecast?

00:09Yeah.

00:09Some snowflakes, some clouds, some ice.

00:12Mine's looking a little different.

00:13It's wet.

00:14We take you into a minute past here.

00:16A great tool, especially this time of year,

00:19because it travels right along with you there.

00:22As long as you have the AccuWeather app,

00:24it'll pick up on your location, especially

00:26if you have location services on.

00:27Or you can also just type in your location,

00:29where you may be staying.

00:30If you're in a running California,

00:32I mean, periods of rain pretty heavy here

00:34for at least the next 118 minutes.

00:36It will drop in intensity a little bit

00:39as we head into the 5 o'clock.

00:40That's local time, of course.

00:42And it's going to be wet, wet, wet across the Northwest

00:45and into central parts of California.

00:48Look at those huge waves crashing down in Santa Cruz.

00:50We were talking about the big issues

00:52there along the wharf and the collapse.

00:55Scary situation here with some dangerous surf.

00:57And we'll start to see rain totals come up.

00:59Or this is just the totals over the last 24 hours.

01:02But these numbers will be increasing

01:03over the next 24 hours, as you're already

01:06seeing more of that moisture move on in across Oregon, even

01:09parts of Washington state at this point.

01:13Windy, windy, windy.

01:14So far, we've seen wind gusts up to about 17 miles per hour

01:17into Portland.

01:18But the rest of the locations we have plotted on here

01:20haven't been exceeding that here.

01:22So we'll be watching the windiest conditions just

01:25offshore, but those will be moving in with the storm

01:27as we head into tonight and through the day tomorrow.

01:30Showed you some video out of Santa Cruz,

01:32but the same story here farther north,

01:34where we've had waves that have been crashing.

01:36Look at these 20, 21 feet in some locations

01:39there offshore here of the Oregon and Washington coastline.

01:43So a very powerful storm, lots of energy, lots of moisture

01:45moving on in through the rest of tonight

01:48and into our Tuesday night.

01:50Bringing with it travel delays could bring some more mudslides

01:53and flooding in areas that have already

01:54seen some of that heavy rain as we just

01:56got done with a round of storms.

01:58Plus, the wind is going to be pretty powerful here

02:00as we head into our Christmas Eve.

02:03Through tonight, heavier rain continues

02:05to make its way farther north.

02:07And then those snow levels begin falling here.

02:09And we'll be watching the snow move on through.

02:11For some of the passes, it's a couple inches.

02:13For others, it's closer to feet.

02:15We'll be taking a closer look at that.

02:18So one storm impacting the Northwest now.

02:20Plenty more on its heels.

02:21You can see that next storm there off into the Pacific.

02:24And that's why so much rain is going to be falling here

02:26when you look at future rainfall.

02:27Those bright shades of yellow popping up along Oregon,

02:30into Washington, into Northern California.

02:33More accurately, they're exclusively

02:34calling for the 4 to 8 inches of rain in the forecast

02:37out until Friday.

02:38So it's storm after storm after storm producing this rain.

02:40And actually, the local storm acts up to 16 inches of rain.

02:44And some areas could see 16 inches of snow,

02:46like Donner Pass and the 12 to 18 range.

02:48Sonora Pass also could see a foot or more of snow.

02:53Christmas Day, not as festive as the one

02:55Jeff was showing there across parts of the Northeast.

02:57But Seattle has some showers there.

02:59And we'll keep it cloudy in Boise.
