00:00There is just something about new and crisp paper bills for the traditional aguinaldos

00:05that put those who will receive them in a very jolly mood.

00:09What more if they also come in new designs?

00:12As the Banco Central ng Pilipinas introduces these new polymer banknotes this month, PTV's

00:26banknote series to President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.

00:30Similar to the 1,000 polymer bill launched in 2022, the new banknotes are made of durable

00:36polymer material, making them resistant to tears, water damage, and viruses.

00:42The polymer notes are expected to last over seven years and feature advanced security

00:47measures such as holograms to prevent counterfeiting.

00:51President Marcos said the introduction of the new currency aligns with global practices,

00:56promoting that countries like Australia, Canada, and Singapore release new banknote

01:00designs every decade to enhance security.

01:03Today, the Philippines proudly joins their ranks, ensuring that our currency remains

01:09secure, durable, and sustainable.

01:12By upgrading our currency, we are making sure that every hard-earned peso stays safe, whether

01:19it is saved, whether it is spent, or whether it is invested.

01:23Unlike previous designs featuring national heroes, the new banknotes highlight the Philippines'

01:29rich biodiversity with images of endemic animals and plants.

01:34The 1,000 peso bill showcases a Philippine eagle and sampaguita.

01:38The 500 peso bill features a Visayan spotted deer.

01:42The 100 peso bill highlights a Palawan peacock, while the 50 peso bill includes a Visayan

01:47leopard cat.

01:48The new legal tenders are also eco-friendly and recyclable.

01:52The introduction of the first Philippine polymer banknote series reflects the progress

01:56we are making as a Bagong Pilipinas, practical, innovative, and deeply meaningful.

02:03I am sure that this fresh set of bills will add more excitement to our kids when they

02:09come and ask for their aguinaldo.

02:12According to the BSP, the new banknotes will initially be available in limited quantities

02:17in Metro Manila this month, with nationwide distribution expected by January 2025.

02:23All banknotes remain legal tender but can be exchanged for the new polymer series at

02:27authorized banks.
