Women only art installation reopens at MONA for a month

After a successful legal battle an exclusive lounge for women has been reopened at the museum of old and new art in Hobart. But despite the win in the supreme court, the famous lounge will only be open for one month.

00:00Behind the green curtain, ladies are being invited back into the lounge at Mona.

00:08It's been closed for seven months amid a legal battle over whether the museum has the right to exclude men from the space.

00:16Women squashed the patriarchy that day and we will now be taking over the world.

00:23Sydney man Jason Lau claimed the ladies lounge was discriminatory.

00:27Mona fought back and won, arguing the space is a flipped universe,

00:32allowing men to experience discrimination in the same way women have.

00:37I've been a woman all my life and it's been a long battle but also a long joyous celebration.

00:43The lounge contains art by Sydney Nolan alongside ancient treasures.

00:47The controversial fake Picassos have gone and been replaced with real Picasso ceramics.

00:54And there's a wall of adult-only sculptures.

00:58Men will be allowed in this version of the ladies lounge but on a limited basis and with conditions.

01:05We are offering an adult education program including ironing and laundry folding lessons

01:12and there are positions available for men.

01:15Despite the legal victory, the lounge will only be open for a few weeks.

01:20I felt that it was better to spend a year's budget in one month

01:24because I would like to pour copious amounts of champagne.

01:27I think that we need around-the-clock strippers.

01:31But that might not be the end of it.

01:33I would like to see the ladies lounge at the White House, perhaps in the Oval Office.
