Liverpool crowned most generous city of 2024

Liverpool has topped the list of most generous cities in 2024 driven in large part by the response to the Southport attack, according to a crowdfunding website. GoFundMe said the city topped a list of donations per capita.

00:10across England, with the first taking place in Southport and many other parts of the country

00:14following suit, including Liverpool. Around £1.3 million was raised via GoFundMe to support those

00:20affected by the initial attack, as well as the riots. Spello Community Hub and Library in Walton,

00:25which opened last year as an essential space for the deprived local community, was set alight.

00:30In a bid to help restore the library, Alex McCormick from Netherton set up a GoFundMe page

00:34which eventually raised £250,000. The list does not include the enormous fundraising drive which

00:40saved Liverpool Children's Hospice Zoe's Place from closure, as £6.5 million in donations

00:45was gathered through a different crowdfunding website, JustGiving. GoFundMe's data looked

00:50at donations per capita and reveals that Liverpool is the most generous UK city,

00:54with London, Norwich, Manchester and Belfast making it into the top five.
