00:00Plans to transform Liverpool's north docks have moved closer to reality
00:04after leaders backed the next stage of a mayoral development corporation.
00:09The body would focus on coordinating regeneration across Brownfield area
00:14stretching from the waterfront towards Everton's Hill Dickinson Stadium.
00:18The proposal could help unlock up to 17,000 homes
00:22alongside commercial and employment space, green areas and infrastructure.
00:26Supporters say bringing land ownership, planning, investment and delivery together
00:31could help overcome long-standing barriers that have slowed development across the docks region.
00:37The Combined Authority's decision follows a six-week consultation, which received 537 responses.
00:4585.2% supported creating the corporation.
00:48However, respondents raised concerns about transport capacity,
00:53affordable housing, heritage, accountability and community involvement there.
00:58The proposed corporation still needs approval from the Secretary of State before being established.
01:03Further work will cover its business case, governance and arrangements and powers.
01:07If approved, it would become a dedicated regeneration body for the north docks
01:12and coordinate major development.
01:14The area already includes Liverpool Waters, Stanley Dock, Palmall, the Cruise Terminal and Everton's new stadium.
01:21The Combined Authority says the proposed corporation is intended to join those projects together,
01:26supporting homes, jobs, spaces and infrastructure.
