00:00In 2026, the Senate is set to see some generational changes. It will increase in size by over
00:0750% from its current 60 members all the way up to 96 for the next Senate elections.
00:14With the changes to the number of elected members comes a change to the constituency
00:17boundaries and a new voting system. We will now be voting for a party rather than a specific
00:22politician for the first time, with a list of candidates per constituency named on a
00:27closed list. Six total Senate members will be named per constituency based on the number
00:32of votes in that constituency, so will make it one of the most proportional systems anywhere
00:37in the world. The latest map has been announced with a number of combinations including a
00:42massive constituency spanning across the breadth of Wales from Flintshire all the way across
00:47to the English border. It will be finally decided on in March with a consultation period
00:52now open to the public until the 13th of January for those to give their thoughts on
00:57the current proposals.
