00:00Hi, I'm Brian Ferguson, Arts Correspondent at Scotsman.
00:03I'm here at the Everyman Cinema in Edinburgh
00:06for the launch of the second season of the Amazon Prime series, The Rig.
00:11The supernatural thriller is set in the North Sea in the first season
00:16and goes further afield in season two.
00:19I'm going to be speaking to writer David McPherson
00:22and stars Iain Glenn, Martin Compton and Rochenda Sandal.
00:28Alien?
00:29Yeah, I think it is.
00:30I think the first season was very interior.
00:34It was about a group of people trapped in a world that they knew,
00:39a world that they came from,
00:40but all these alien variables attacking them, disorientating them.
00:46But in the new world, they enter a whole different landscape,
00:50suggested by the MTC, but they end up in the Arctic Circle.
00:54Perfectly unsettling.
00:56Yeah, it's kind of crazy.
00:58I mean, I thought it was decided at the beginning
01:00that they couldn't actually take Amazon to dig a fish rig
01:04without them doing the helicopter training.
01:07So that's pretty tricky in terms of insurance and things like that.
01:11So I think it was decided that they were going to have to do a studio fit.
01:17But it's crazy.
01:18But it's also awesome.
01:20It's part of what makes the job the job.
01:22You're looking around and thinking, wow, this is how they do it.
01:25You're really getting to see behind the scenes.
01:27I know it sounds a bit cheesy, but that's the bit that I love so much.
01:32Oh, I'm getting lightened.
01:32Yeah, see, it's terrible.
01:33It's a stunner.
01:34Down to the line, it was one of the absolute best things I've ever been on.
01:37Everybody's saying,
01:38I was just dying.
01:39Gone in anger.
01:40It was fun to hear.
01:41It was so much the best.
01:42Honestly, in terms of the job enjoyment,
01:45you just want to finish it.
01:47Yeah, the whole thing.
01:48I think it's brilliant.
01:49I love it.
01:49All the cheers and faces like, ah, you've done something.
01:52I was very excited.
01:53It's definitely great.
01:54I really love it.
01:56Ah, great.
01:57The after party's been a wonderful job.
01:59I've felt it as hot as they could probably.
02:01Is it on ice?
02:02No, it's in a spot that's set in a different way.
02:05It's so hot, and like, it's as old now, but it's just when you can feel it.
02:09It's incredible.
02:10Yeah, damn, you're making me speak my mind.
02:12Just brilliant.
02:13It's a bit special.
02:13I've fished that way a few times.
02:15The actually, there's a pause that we have usually.
02:17What are you into both of them?
02:19Um.
02:19Oh, the actual job.
02:20This should not really affect me, I'd say.
02:22The fact that I get to be able to do all this myself,
02:26right now, in French.
02:27What is everything in French?
02:28Well, you say I'm at least trying to hang myself up.
02:31I'm still hanging myself up.
02:33All hot and all that.
02:34Right.
02:35I must say, like, that's one of the things I'm trying to change about, too.
02:39I'd rather just be here, but, like, let's give it a try.
02:42Something new.
02:43It's nice to do it, because I think it's something that's going to be a whole new thing for me.
02:45It's just fun.
02:46It's like that, you know.
02:48Yeah, it's brilliant.
02:48It's, I'm really excited to finally be able to show people
02:52what we've been picking up.
02:53It's been a couple of years since the last series,
02:56and this time we've gone really big.
02:58So, I'm really excited to share that with the audience.
03:02Yeah, it is.
03:03And it's been a real education for me as well,
03:06because I didn't know, I didn't sort of know
03:09you need to do film or anything like that.
03:10So, in this first series, that was kind of like what I filmed still.
03:14And then, coming back to it for this series,
03:16I felt I'd learned a lot and developed.
03:19That let us push things really far.
03:22Yeah, well, I'd say this series is, it's a lot more action-focused.
03:27One of the big changes is our location.
03:29So, series one, we stayed on the rig the entire time.
03:33This series, first we've moved up to the Arctic.
03:36That's a new environment for our crew.
03:38And this is, rather than being on their own rig,
03:41they're on Colt, Mark Addy's character, his facility.
03:46And it's sort of, they're completely thrown out of their element by that.
03:49And then, so we've got them out on the snow and the ice in the Arctic,
03:52and then we've got sections under the sea as well.
03:55And, yeah, I think we've really survived this series.
03:59Series two of The Rig launches on Prime Video on the 2nd of January.
04:03And here's a trailer with a sneak preview of the new season.
04:07A state of emergency has been declared this morning
04:10after a powerful tsunami struck the North Sea coastline.
04:15How long until we get back?
04:16This chopper isn't going back.
04:19Where are we going?
04:26Morgan Lennox, Pictor's CEO.
04:28The boss of all the bosses.
04:31What about Pictor's plans for carving up the Arctic?
04:36What exactly were they looking for?
04:39The company's covering up.
04:45That thing down there would collapse this place like two.
04:49It will be the end of all life.
04:53It's coming apart! Come on! Let's go!
05:02We need to stop the company.
05:05Ready?
05:06Ready.
05:15You all made a promise you'd get us back, and you broke it.
05:19We were so focused on what was out there, we missed the danger in here.
05:25Extinction.
05:27That was its warning.
05:44You
