Over 1,000 Santas descend on central London

Around 1,200 cycling Santas descended on central London on Saturday (Dec 14) adding a splash of colour to the capital as part of a fundraising event to support a children’s charity.

Stéphane Wright, who got the idea for the event after receiving support from the ECHO

charity after his son was hospitalised after suffering a heart attack aged only six months.

Originally, this was started ten years ago, Tommy was in hospital, he had been hospitalised

due to a near-fatal heart attack, when I was in hospital we received charity from ECHO

in the form of somewhere to stay up in London, and this was just me paying it forward, I

wanted to do something for the charity, and so we decided to do a ride out just for Christmas

time in aid of that, and it grew each year from there, that was in 2014, there was 200

people on that ride, there's probably 1,200 on this ride, it's grown organically every

On London's Oxford Street, the cycling Santas squeezed past London black cabs and buses
