00:00What were you doing at 10 years old? Because I certainly don't think you were cycling
00:04to France. Well Year 6 Teresa from Gillingham will soon set off on Saint Voyage, cycling
00:10from London to Paris for charity.
00:12Since I'm leaving primary school, I wanted to do something really special for secondary
00:18school and end the year really happy, so I decided to do this really big thing to cycle.
00:25I cycle every day to school, no matter what.
00:28The fundraiser will support My Shining Star, a local charity that helps families with practical
00:34and emotional support during difficult times, including help with hospital travel, bills,
00:39food and essentials.
00:40What made you decide to go with the charity that you've gone with?
00:44Because I wanted to help children and families, and I also wanted to do sicknesses like cancer,
00:50so I decided to put those two together and I came up with this.
00:55Teresa won't be alone. She'll be accompanied by Dad Arta every step of the way.
01:00The reason why I believe she got inspired with doing London Paris is a few years ago I did
01:09a charity ride coast to coast, so about 200 and something miles. I've raised more than a thousand
01:18pounds and I think she was little by then and got inspired, I guess.
01:24We came with a short list of children charities and one of the main aspects was it was local,
01:34so I think it's important to support the community, the local community. I'm really proud of what
01:41what she's up to, and this involves a really great courage.
01:46Arta and Teresa will set off on their journey on May 23rd, and from there it will take them
01:50around a week to get from London to Paris, although the rest of the family will be following
01:54behind in a camper van.
01:55They'll be taking a route through Croydon, Redhill, Crawley, Eastbourne and Brighton before crossing
02:01the Channel and heading through rural French countryside. The journey is equal to as if
02:06you were to cycle the length of Margate Sands 676 times.
02:12At first I thought it was pretty easy, but then when it's coming up I feel that it's going
02:17to be really challenging.
02:19Teresa says she's more than ready to take on the challenge, and I imagine she'll certainly
02:24be raising the bar for PE lessons when she joins secondary school in September.
