00:00I'll start again, that's good.
00:02My name is Rachel Noël, and the title of my film is My Mother's Name is Fanny.
00:09What was the idea behind the film?
00:12I wanted to make a portrait of a woman, and after my father's death,
00:18my mother gave me the Super 8, which he filmed.
00:23He filmed it for 16 years, and there were 6 hours of reels of film,
00:27and I watched them.
00:29And through this watching, I discovered things that resonated with intimate questions,
00:34that resonated with questions of women, of filiation.
00:37And I decided, from this material, to dive into these films
00:43and to be able to question my mother's life,
00:48the couple, maternity, filiation,
00:54and to go into a dream.
00:57Magnificent.
00:59What were the ethical and aesthetic challenges?
01:04There were ethical challenges, of course, because it was about working...
01:10Hello! I'll start again.
01:13What were the ethical and aesthetic challenges?
01:17There were mainly ethical challenges,
01:21because it was about using material that my father had filmed,
01:26intimate material, which is normally intended for private use.
01:32So images of family, that we see as family,
01:36and that are absolutely not intended to be seen by others.
01:40So the challenge was, from this intimate material,
01:44to get closer to universal questions,
01:48and not to stay...
01:50to enter the life of a family,
01:52and at the same time, to be a little distant,
01:55so as not to go into the details, the entire exposition of this family,
02:00and to be able to go through metaphors,
02:03and through a rather poetic and visual universe.
02:07And so, that brings me to the other question,
02:11what were the ethical and aesthetic challenges?
