Panthers defense scouting report: A lot of players to exploit

The Panthers have seen a lot of offensive improvement in 2024, but according to Broaddus, their defense still has plenty of positions the Cowboys can exploit on Sunday. Check out his scouting report on Carolina's defensive unit in the video above.

00:00Let's talk about these Carolina Panthers.

00:18Defensively they're one of the worst teams in what plays defensively in the National

00:21Football League and for reason.

00:24They're going to play, they play a lot of their base.

00:28They don't play a lot of nickel or dime and they don't particularly play well against

00:34the run.

00:35They've struggled against the pass, they don't get pass pressure.

00:39You would think that maybe with Clowney, A'shaun Robinson, A'shaun Robinson the defensive

00:45lineman who they got from the Giants has really kind of been their best player.

00:50They, you know, they miss Frankie Louvu who they had last year at this time when Dallas

00:56played, Carolina.

00:57You know, Frankie Louvu, we saw what Frankie Louvu did when he was with the Commanders.

01:02You know, he's done a really nice job for them.

01:04They don't have very good linebackers.

01:07Their secondary has been a problem for them.

01:11They don't get a lot of pressure.

01:13J.C.

01:14Horn, we all remember J.C.

01:15Horn from the draft, him, Sertan, those were the two guys that Dallas was kind of holding

01:21on.

01:22Mike McCarthy had coached J.C.

01:24Horn's dad, Joe Horn, at the Saints.

01:28It was talked that the coaches were leaning towards J.C.

01:31Horn and the Scouts wanted Sertan.

01:35So if it came down to that, that would have been a little bit interesting dynamic there.

01:39I've been pulling for the Scouts on that one.

01:41Yeah, me too.

01:42Well, I mean, there's a lot of people that really like J.C.

01:45Horn.

01:46I will say this though, Mike Jackson, the corner, left corner number two, he gets picked

01:51on a lot in these games.

01:54People have gone after Horn a little bit, but what they've gone after Horn, he hasn't

01:58allowed like completion percentage against him is not very good.

02:04So I think you have to be careful if you're Cooper Rush in this football game.

02:09Only the Indianapolis Colts in the secondary and their secondary play more off coverage

02:16than these guys.

02:18These guys average seven yards of cushion.

02:22So the four-yard turnaround routes are going to be, they're going to be money.

02:25The hooks, the slants, all those things that Mike McCarthy loves to call.

02:29This is what the doctor ordered?

02:30This is a doctor's order game for Mike McCarthy and a little bit of a doctor's order game

02:34for potentially for the Cowboys wide receivers because-

02:38Bingo, revenge game, breakout game, hello.

02:41He might have two catches for nine yards.

02:43The one thing that Cowboys have not been able to do very well is the separation.

02:48That has been a big, big, big problem with this football team.

02:52So keep an eye on that.

02:54Cowboys should be able to run the ball well in this football game.

02:57And also though, if they want to throw the ball, I think it'll be there as well.

03:01Not a lot of pressure here.

03:03Trying to attack Mike Jackson in this game.

03:05And then if you can hold up the front, I think there's some ability, like I say, they should

03:09be able to block these guys well enough to let Rico Dattle have a really, really nice

03:14game.

03:15Can you give Cooper Rush like a 20-yard pocket so he can feel comfortable maybe?

03:19I don't know about that, Dawson.

03:22I know one thing is though, when Clowney's on the field, they have a little bit more

03:26pressure.

03:27When he's off the field, they have no pressure.

03:29So it really kind of depends on off and on guys and stuff like that.

03:34This defense is just really, really bad.

03:38They've been in games against Kansas City, Philadelphia, and people like that.

03:42A lot of it is because their offense, I think, has improved over the last several weeks.
