00:00Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the best multiplayer games
00:14to star Marvel's impressive roster.
00:2310.
00:24Captain America and the Avengers When it comes to old school superhero games,
00:34the best of them could be found in the beat-em-up genre.
00:37This arcade gem follows Captain America, along with Iron Man, Hawkeye, and Vision, as they
00:42fight to stop a world-conquering plot from the Red Skull.
00:46The game included the tried and true gameplay of the genre, as well as flying shooter sections
00:50for a bit of variety.
00:52While its visuals didn't look quite as good as other Marvel beat-em-ups that would
00:56come later, it was still a quick-paced blast that made fun use of each hero's signature
01:01ability.
01:02Plus, there are a lot of great villains that show up as bosses, like Ultron, Juggernaut,
01:08and of course, Red Skull himself.
01:139.
01:18Marvel Heroes Marvel's MMORPG undeniably got off to a
01:28rough start, but once it was reworked and relaunched, plenty of players found joy in
01:33teaming up as their favorite heroes.
01:35When Doctor Doom takes out the Watcher, chaos breaks loose in the Marvel Universe, bringing
01:40together all manner of heroes to make things right.
01:43Marvel Heroes featured a ton of characters to choose from and power up.
01:49When its systems were rebalanced in 2015 and raids were introduced, the game saw a healthy
01:54player base grow, impressed by how much it had improved.
01:58Sadly, Disney shut down servers in 2017, and developer Gazillion Entertainment didn't
02:04last much longer.
02:078.
02:10The Punisher
02:15Another beat-em-up gem, Capcom's take on The Punisher still has a cult following today.
02:21It follows the Vigilante as he teams up with Nick Fury, acting as Player Two, in an attempt
02:26to take down the Kingpin and his thriving criminal organization.
02:31While both characters basically control the same, the surprising amount of weapon variety
02:35keeps gameplay feeling fresh.
02:37There are expected items of the genre like pipes, knives, and swords, but also more violent
02:43weapons you'd expect from The Punisher like guns and grenades.
02:47It's smooth, fast-paced, and bloody.
02:51But it was also praised for how it adapted the comic book look, and its visuals still
02:56look great today.
02:597.
03:03Marvel Snap
03:12Some may scoff at a mobile digital card collecting game, but if you haven't played Marvel Snap,
03:18you don't know how addictive it can be.
03:20It's easy for most players to pick up, matches only last a few minutes, and your deck consists
03:26of cards you've unlocked while playing.
03:28However, you can raise the stakes at any time, and every setting you play in comes with a
03:33different effect that can change the outcome.
03:36On top of its simple yet satisfying hook, the game has received a ton of updates, including
03:41new modes and cards, that have only made it more fun.
03:45It has been a huge success since launch, growing quickly enough to even have its own tournaments.
03:556.
03:59Lego Marvel Super Heroes
04:09Lego games are a great source for co-op, and there have been plenty of popular IPs the
04:14brand has adapted over the years.
04:17For Marvel, we have to give love to 2013's Lego Marvel Super Heroes.
04:22The story is simple, chronicling the team-up of a plethora of heroes to stop the plans
04:26of Doctor Doom, Loki, and a parade of other villains in taking over the planet.
04:32While that doesn't break new ground, the game's sense of humor is delightful all
04:36the way through.
04:37The roster is also impressive, making for varied gameplay no matter who you're playing
04:42as, and every level brings new layers of joy as you smash your way through hordes of bad
04:48guys.
04:495.
04:58X-Men
04:59Konami's take on the famous mutant team isn't just one of the best multiplayer Marvel
05:11games, it's also one of the best arcade beat-em-ups ever released.
05:16Again, the story is simple, following the X-Men as they try to thwart another plan from
05:21Magneto.
05:22But, it has a great roster to choose from.
05:25Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Storm, Cyclops, Colossus, and Dazzler each play the same,
05:30except for their own special moves that can deal heavy damage.
05:34While it may seem straightforward and repetitive, it's the very definition of a classic.
05:40It skyrocketed to popularity when it launched in arcades, and there are legions of players
05:44who still cherish those memories fondly.
05:47Plus, those visuals are timeless.
05:544.
05:57X-Men Legends 2, Rise of Apocalypse
06:06Raven Software developed several stellar Marvel action RPGs throughout the 2000s.
06:11While its predecessor is also strong, X-Men Legends 2 improves on every aspect.
06:17It was awesome seeing the X-Men team up with Magneto's forces to stop Apocalypse, adding
06:22some interesting interactions during the story.
06:24Leveling up each mutant as you played to increase their stats and abilities was a ton of fun,
06:30and especially mastering which characters paired up the best for your team.
06:34More importantly, for the purposes of this list, the game offered more enjoyment through
06:39co-op.
06:40Marvel also did the first, but Rise of Apocalypse brought the addition of online play.
06:44It also brought new powers and team-up attacks, making it a fantastic multiplayer title in
06:50its time.
06:523.
06:54Marvel Rivals The hero shooter genre has its ups and downs,
07:09but Marvel Rivals is an absolute thrill to play.
07:12It had one of the best free-to-play launches in history, meaning there were throngs of
07:17players who couldn't wait to dive in.
07:20The roster of characters is incredibly varied, from those everyone recognizes like Spider-Man,
07:25Wolverine, and the Hulk, to more obscure heroes like Squirrel Girl, Magic, and Jeff the Land
07:31Shark.
07:32No matter who you play as, though, you'll be sucked in by their wonderful abilities
07:36and the sheer addictiveness that comes from perfecting a team comp.
07:41There's nothing like clutching a narrow victory to keep you coming back for more.
07:45Since Marvel Rivals is built for longevity, we expect that feeling to last for years.
07:542.
07:58Marvel Ultimate Alliance Ask any long-time fan what their favorite
08:07Marvel co-op game is, and there's a good chance the answer will be Ultimate Alliance.
08:13After its work on X-Men Legends, Raven Software expanded its scope to include a host of Marvel
08:18heroes, brought together by Doctor Doom, who once again plays the key villain.
08:23While it shares a lot of DNA with Raven's previous games, everything just works better
08:28here, primarily because we got to pair up so many different types of heroes together
08:33for the first time.
08:34Whether they were actually playable or just popped up in the story, this was the grandest
08:39cast of characters a Marvel game had up to this point.
08:42Plus, it was just plain joy to play, especially with friends.
09:101.
09:12Marvel vs. Capcom 2 New Age of Heroes
09:22Beginning with 1994's X-Men Children of the Atom, Capcom produced some of the greatest
09:28fighting games, not only to star Marvel characters, but in existence.
09:33And that partnership peaked with Marvel vs. Capcom 2.
09:37Everything about this game is adored by fans.
09:40Every combatant features a diverse moveset that's easy to pick up, but difficult to
09:45master.
09:46And the roster itself is a wide array of popular and obscure characters.
09:50Fights move at a blisteringly fast pace, sending excitement from your fingertips to your brain
09:55as you try to keep up.
09:57It's also a visual powerhouse, featuring a timeless cartoonish aesthetic with bright
10:02colors that pop right off the screen.
10:05They just don't make them like this anymore.
