00:00Apex predators are very, very important to an ecosystem.

00:05They eliminate all of the weak or all of the old animals,

00:08making sure that your core population is as strong as possible.

00:11They're also very important for the genetics of a lot of the prey species.

00:15If animals are not stirred up by being pursued by apex predators,

00:19what can often happen is they can live in these very contained groups

00:23in very small parts of an ecosystem.

00:25Inbreeding can occur.

00:27Slightly less healthier individuals will end up breeding.

00:30And so really the apex predator, from the point of view of balance

00:34in many different directions, plays a very important role in any ecosystem.
