00:00We're heading to a small town in Mozambique called Ponto de Oro, where some hippos have
00:08been eating people's crops.
00:10I'm on my way out there now with Dr. João to see if we can find them.
00:19So what is human-wildlife conflict?
00:22People like you and me, we're very privileged because we have our fridge full of food and
00:27we go to the supermarket and we can buy food there.
00:30If a group of elephants comes into a village and raids a field of crops, that's it for
00:34that village.
00:35No more food for the whole year.
00:37So that's where conflict really becomes a problem and we need to make the people happy
00:43or at least tolerant towards wildlife.
00:46The way to do that is create benefits for the people to live with the wildlife.
00:50Why are we moving these hippos?
00:52These hippos are living outside of a protected area.
00:55In the day they hide in the lakes and at night they go out to graze and so they eat
01:00people's crops and we've been requested to come catch the hippo, put it on a truck, drive
01:06it to a protected area where we're actually driving through now and release the hippo.
