Principal's elation as Sunderland school officially most improved in country after massive Progress 8 jump

Farringdon Community Academy is officially the most improved school in the country.

00:00Okay Mr. Bedford, Progress 8 scores are out and I understand that your school is

00:04the most improved in the country. Yeah we're absolutely delighted to see that

00:08Farringdon topped the list of the 3,200 schools in the UK. We've improved progress

00:13by over full grade which is unbelievable for the outcomes of the students at

00:17Farringdon. And how many schools is that out of do you know? Yeah it's over 3,200

00:22and we've topped the list. I think there's actually 3,299 schools on the

00:26list and Farringdon came in top. I understand the results in core subjects went up

00:31massively as well. We made huge gains on 4+, 5+, English and Maths measures. We

00:36came in at 74% 4+, and 57% 5+, which is a massive leap from the previous year.

00:42Just what do you think's been the key to turning it around? We implemented our

00:46Northern model of school improvement, created a culture of positive

00:50reinforcement, rewarded the students for doing really well and ensuring that

00:55they got the best outcomes they deserved. Obviously in the new building now, I mean

00:59what are your hopes going forward in terms of maintaining these results?

01:02Really hopeful that the new build will inspire the students further, raise

01:07aspirations further. We're determined to continue with the outcomes we get at

01:11Farringdon and we'll ensure we do that by continuing to implement our Northern

01:14model.
